5486 Kales, Oakland / Located in the Rockridge neighborhood, this home was originally an unfortunate peach color with kelly green trim and too many details emphasized. Now the colors bring out the best features of the house. The home has been featured in the SF Chronicle Magazine.
Before - It wasn't that the white on the walls and ceiling was bad, but it did little to bring out the warmth and charm of the beautiful original woodwork, the stone fireplace and the lovely art glass windows next to the fireplace.
After - The walls are now done in a deep rich red (Behr - Cinnamon Cherry), while the ceiling effect was created using several custom mixed colors and a certain amount of randomness. A soft, muted texture was used rather than a more defined sponging look to complement the mottled effect in the stained glass.
